The “Passion for Speed” weekend starting Friday the 27th of January through to Saturday the 28th of January 2012 will have over 300 racing cars on the program with some of the world’s greatest names of man and machine on the race card.

passionforspeed2012There will be qualifying and some racing events on Friday afternoon followed by a pre-race party with plenty of bantering between Sarel van der Merwe, his U.S.A team mate Desiree Wilson – the only woman to ever have won in a Formula one race. The Dutch Formula One and A1 GP ace Jan Lammers, David Piper, Mike Knight and the Dutch “Safari” headed by Michiel Campagne whose efforts are legendary in the McLaren and big Corvettes, Le Mans winner Richard Attwood, our own multiple champion Hennie Groenewald, Gary Fermato. Get up real close and see and hear what the greats have to say for themselves when not donned with racing helmets.

The entry list of the pre-1974 international Sports Racing Prototype meeting will include:• Three Lola T70s driven by Garth Waberski, Hennie Groenewald and Colin Butcher;
• Porsche 917s driven by Colin Frost, Clare Vale, Rui Campos and Peter Bailey;
• Martini Porsche driven by André Bezuidenhout;
• Porsche RSRs of Frans Pretorius, John Greve and Dillon Miller;
• Chevron B8s and B19s;
• Three Group 5 cars – two Camaros and Robbie Smith in a Capri.

The Passion for Speed kicks off on Friday, 27 January with the main features taking place on 28 January. The classic bikes with famous overseas riders such as Mick Grant, Steve Platter, Dave Hailwood, Michael Dunlop, will strut their stuff on Sunday. A weekend pass will cost you R150 (R80 if you’re a student) and if you are under the age of 12 you get in free of charge.
