The Ford Cortina MK1 GT holds a significant place in South Africa’s automotive history.

Introduced in late 1963 the Cortina GT was a performance version of the standard MK1 Cortina.

Equipped with a 1,5-liter engine featuring a Weber carburetor branch manifold higher compression and a sportier camshaft.

Top speed 125 Km/h.

The GT was fitted with a rev counter.

The introduction of the GT badge on a family sedan stirred controversy among purists as GT was traditionally reserved for high end sports cars nevertheless the Cortina GT’s performance and affordability made it a favorite among South African motorists.
